Forensic specialist Lincoln Rhyme has been left paralysed by a near-fatal injury. When Rhyme's fellow detectives persuade him to take on a mysterious murder case, he enlists the help of street-smart policewoman Amelia Donaghy. Although an unlikely pairing, Amelia must become Rhyme's ears, eyes and legs as they race against the clock to get inside the mind of a madman.
